Lennon & McCartney wrote 159 songs, as per an agreement to credit each other jointly, George was allowed to contribute 22 of his own, and the Beatles recorded 25 cover versions.
As shown, the only exception to the above is the 5 original Beatles songs written or co-written by Ringo. These outliers are detailed below.
What were Ringo's five contributions?
- What Goes On (Rubber Soul)
Co-written with John and Paul. The only Beatles song credited to Lennon-McCartney-Starkey.
- Flying (Magical Mystery Tour)
A group instrumental from the film soundtrack, the first of only two songs credited to Lennon-McCartney-Harrison-Starkey.
- Don't Pass Me By (The Beatles)
One of two Ringo-sung songs on The White Album, and Ringo's first sole composition.
- Octopus's Garden (Abbey Road)
Ringo's not-quite-convincingly-cheerful number from side one of Abbey Road. Perhaps underrated as a Beatles song, and featuring some great guitar lines from George.
- Dig It (Let It Be)
A studio jam, credited to all four Beatles.
The 211 songs included in the venn diagram are the official Beatles songs released on EMI/Apple during the band's lifetime 1962-1970.
Related trivia: Don't Pass Me By reached number one as a single in Scandinavia (with Back In The U.S.S.R).
